Good, site specific design is the key to excellence in our work.
How do you made a stained glass window? The first thing that you do is you listen…And you look. A site visit gives us a feel for the space. Decades of experience facilitating community art projects makes Nancy Katz, our Designer-in-Residence, an expert in determining what imagery makes sense for any given location and strengthens her ability to communicate visual concepts with clients. Nancy goes back & forth developing the design– working and reworking it with input from the client. Sometimes a model is created to give the client a better sense of the scale of the project.
As the designer of the windows, Nancy is also responsible for the drawing of full sized ‘cartoons’ based on accurate measurements. This work often engages additional members of the fabrication team in order to ensure the best results possible. Glass selection is an important part of the process. Sheets of glass come in a limitless range of colors and textures. Note how the same design varies with a change in the selection of glass. We always use top quality, hand blown glass.
