Mark oversees the entire fabrication process.
After a design is approved by the client, the Wilmark team works together to bring the work into fruition. Patterns are traced and cut using special three blade shears to allow for the heart of the lead came. The patterns are placed down and the glass is scored with a steel wheel glass cutter; the score will result in a crack that will run and the glass will break along the score line. When desired, we paint the glass with vitreous paint. Next, a panel is “leaded up”— lead came is shaped and mitered, and neatly soldered at each joint to hold the glass securely in the lead matrix. After the panels are assembled, we fill the spaces between the leading and the glass with glazing putty in order to strengthen the panel, making it weather-tight and polished clean.
